SCENIC TRAINS

The scenic trains of Switzerland are one of the country’s top tourism highlights. They offer spectacular journeys through azure glaciers, crystal-clear lakes, charming villages, and in the summer, verdant valleys with the famous Swiss cows. All of this can be enjoyed from the comfort of panoramic train carriages with large windows, making it an excellent way to experience the most beautiful landscapes of the country.

Glacier Express – This famous journey is known for being the slowest express train in the world, taking travelers through the Alps in about eight hours, passing through 91 tunnels and over 290 bridges. The complete route is from Zermatt to St. Moritz, also passing through Andermatt and Chur, which can be done in the opposite direction as well. The Excellence Class is the highlight, with guaranteed window seats, an exclusive bar, concierge service, and impeccable onboard dining, starting with champagne and delicate snacks, followed by a seven-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Duration: approx. 8 hours.

GoldenPass Express – The newest scenic train offers a journey between Interlaken and Montreux. The route starts in Interlaken and goes through Gstaad, Château-d’Oex, and Montbovon before reaching Montreux, the final stop. It’s also possible to start the journey in Montreux. The “Prestige” class is the highlight, an exclusive class with all the amenities for an unforgettable trip. Duration: approx. 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Gotthard Panorama Express – Starting in Lugano or Bellinzona, this journey takes you from the south directly to the heart of Switzerland. Route: Lugano/Bellinzona to Flüelen by train, then from Flüelen to Lucerne by boat. The journey can also be done in the opposite direction. Duration: approx. 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Bernina Express – With the route from Chur to St. Moritz to Tirano (Italy), the crossing of the Alps with the Bernina Express is simply spectacular. An unforgettable moment worth capturing is the crossing of the Landwasser Viaduct, a landmark of the Rhaetian Railway and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – this stretch is the same as the Glacier Express. Between Chur and Tirano, the Bernina Express passes through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges. It also goes through amazing places like the Montebello Curve with views of the Bernina Range, the Morteratsch Glacier, the three lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair, and Lago Bianco, Alp Grüm, and the circular viaduct of Brusio. Duration: approx. 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Luzern–Interlaken Express – During this approximately two-hour journey, you can admire five crystal-clear mountain lakes, which collect water from various rivers and waterfalls.
